About
Dive into a world of science, engineering, and underwater adventure!
In our club, we explore ocean mysteries, invent imaginative underwater gadgets, and learn how real-world science works. This season, we're diving deeper by studying marine life and working together to build a fully functioning underwater exploration submarine! The sessions are inspired by the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore programme. We have adapted the programme to include age-appropriate activities and added additional educational content that goes beyond building LEGO models.
All sessions are run and faciliated by Roman (Mathias's dad).
We meet once a week for one hour at the Drumbrae Library, 6-7 p.m.
Note: We are working with the library to reserve a table for us, but it's a busy time due to year-end studies. We will use an alternative location for the first two or three meetings: Mathias's house.

Schedule
| Date and time | Location | Agenda |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1: May 14th, 6-7 p.m. | Mathias's house |
We will be learning about oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes; conducting experiments to find out why ocean water is salty; exploring how deep we can dive using different methods; and building a model submarine. |
| Week 2: May 21st, 6-7 p.m. | Mathias's house |
We will continue building our underwater submarine. We will also play an ocean navigator game where we plot a course to a destination and learn about oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes. |
| Week 3: May 28th, 6-7 p.m. | Mathias's house |
We'll dive into the amazing world of coral reefs and discover why they love clean, clear water. We'll explore how sea pollution harms these beautiful underwater homes—and then become young scientists by doing fun experiments to clean and purify polluted water! |
| Week 4: June 4th, 6-7 p.m. | Drumbrae Library |
We are going to finish building our awesome submarines and colourful coral reefs! Then, we will become real scientists and use our chemistry sets to test the water. Is it too sour (acidic) or too soapy (alkaline)? Let's find out and make the water just right so our corals feel happy and at home! |
| Week 5: June 11th, 6-7 p.m. | Drumbrae Library |
We are about to start building our deep ocean vehicle! Since it needs electricity to work, we will learn how to test batteries to make sure they are fully charged before using them in our underwater vehicle. |
| Week 6: June 18th, 6-7 p.m. | Drumbrae Library |
This week, we will explore how to make power for our submarine! First, we will build a battery or generator using LEGO to imagine how submarines get their energy. Next, we will make real working batteries from fruit—like lemons—to power small motors and lights. Get ready to build, test, and discover the power of batteries! |
| Week 7: June 25th, 6-7 p.m. | Drumbrae Library |
It is our last "Submerged" adventure before summer break! 🎉 We are going to play a super fun treasure hunt game! We will use all the cool things we learned about oceans, continents, and submarines. Get ready to be a brave explorer! |
